(Please fullview--it looks clear and not-dithery if you do.)

...I actually drew this one over a year ago and just now remembered I had it sitting in my art folder! Yeah, I'm doin' _real_ well. Anyway, Lupin is easily my favourite of the older Harry Potter characters and I got in the mood to draw him back when he was a student, one day.

But when I looked up Harry Potter fanart here on DA, it seems that so. MUCH of it, is that over-bishie-fied delicate pale wispy anime style, where there is practically _no resemblence at all_ to the original character left. I mean, no offense, but that ain't my thing. Other things I see a lot of include _way_ overplaying his (legitimate, true) angst (tons of scars, blood, deathly pallor, brooding, being comforted by Sirius, etc.) and the golden-eyes thing, which as far as I know is purely fanon. I...don't _do_ fanon. As a rule.

SO! I set out to do my own interpretation of Young Lupin. Only _subtly_ ripped up and careworn, so that it looks like he's got problems, but is dealing with it the best he can (notice the slightly bloodshot eyes and little bits of raggedyness around the edges), only _slightly_ on the pretty side (and is it just me, or is there a _hair_ of resemblance to David Thewlis? I _swear_ I didn't deliberately try for that, so it's just a happy accident) and with hazel eyes instead of golden. He's noticeably pale, but not all the way white--notice that the moon is NEAR full. Whether it just _was_ and he's worn out or it's going to be soon is up to you. (Personally I say just before, but there's no way to tell here.)

And since he would've been a teenager in the '70s, I went ALL OUT on the '70sness. ;) Really, this picture was mainly an excuse to try and draw Hogwarts robes with retro-nerd fashions. The shirt collar is, indeed, supposed to be _that wide_. (No, he ain't left-handed, the picture just turned out that way. I used my own prop-wand (given to me as a gift) as a model here--in real life, it's 10" alder wood, slightly whippy, with a nothing in it. Hee. )
I also had fun with the silhouette of Hogwarts in the background there--which I drew using a screenshot from one of the (PC) games as a reference. Really. Oh yes, and notice the chocolate bar in his pocket. Heh.

Although...next time I decide to put argyle AND cordoroy pattern in the same picture, alongside fancy stripes and a complicated, hard-to-draw feathered hairstyle?
Please shoot me. :P

Drawn entirely in Paint, no special effects this time.
