The Golden Age of Green

(Again, fullview please--I keep drawing these just a smidge too large, for some reason.)

It's the one, the only, accept no imitations, _original_ Green Lantern...Alan Scott! I don't care if he's not officially in the Corps, he kicks ass and doesn't bother to take names. I've been reading a lot of '40s comics lately, and don't let the thrift-store, backstage at the high-school play chic of their costumes fool you--WWII-era superheroes can still mess you UP. The baddies of their day played to keep, after all--real Tommy-guns with real bullets.

I wanted to draw Alan as a _young_ man, like he was in the '40s, but in my own style (there's probably a bit of Gil Kane in there, too, as I copied the pose off an early-'60s shot of _Hal_ plunging down from the heavens) and actually did--GASP! A BACKGROUND! (It looked more elaborate before I pasted him in front of it, really...) And I also felt like trying for a dramatic SWOOSH! action pose. I think it turned out pretty well.
